LEARN MORE ABOUT MOTHERS AND RE-ENTRY

The numbers are staggering. "Almost 2 million women and girls are released from prisons and jails every year, but few post-release programs are available to them — partly because so many women are confined to jails, which are not meant to be used for long-term incarceration."

The 2019 Prison Policy Initiative asserts, "It is perhaps then no surprise that formerly incarcerated women are also more likely to be homeless than formerly incarcerated men, making reentry and compliance with probation or parole even more difficult.

All of these issues make women particularly vulnerable to being incarcerated not because they commit crimes, but because they run afoul of one of the burdensome obligations of their probation or parole supervision" (Aleks Kajstura).

Programs like MOR play a vital role to curb recidivism by helping women find housing, child care, and meaningful employment.

Programs like MOR contribute to reductions in recidivism.

In 2019, recidivism rates for women in Indiana dropped to the lowest they have been in six year because of IDOC's commitment to innovative programs during incarceration and after, to support women during re-entry.
